Char Sui Pork

Ingredients
- 4 pork shoulder steaks (about 800g), cut 2.5cm thick
- 60ml (¼ cup) hoisin sauce
- 60ml (¼ cup) honey
- 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp five spice powder
- 1 tsp MSG (optional)
- Red food colouring (optional)
Method
- Cut pork shoulder into 2.5cm (1 inch) thick steaks if not pre-cut.
- Pierce all over with a fork.
- Combine hoisin sauce, honey, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, five spice, MSG, and food colouring (if using) to make the marinade.
- Coat the pork in the marinade and leave for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat oven to 220°C. Place pork on a rack over a baking tray.
- Roast for 30 minutes, regularly flipping and basting with the remaining marinade.
- Serve over steamed rice.
