Airfryer Char Siu

Juicy, tender pork glazed with a sticky-sweet Cantonese barbecue sauce, made easy in the air fryer.

Ingredients

  • 900g (2 lb) pork shoulder, cut into strips
  • 2 tbsp char siu sauce, plus extra for glazing
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp Chinese cooking wine
  • 1 tsp white pepper
  • 1 tsp five spice powder
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Honey or extra char siu sauce, to finish

Method

  1. Combine char siu sauce, oyster sauce, dark soy sauce, Chinese cooking wine, white pepper, five spice, and sugar. Toss pork strips in the marinade to coat.
  2. Preheat air fryer to 195°C (380°F).
  3. Arrange pork in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 10 minutes.
  4. Flip pork and brush with a fresh layer of char siu sauce. Cook for a further 10 minutes.
  5. Flip once more and brush with honey or extra char siu sauce for shine. Cook for 3–5 minutes until edges are slightly charred and sticky.
  6. Rest for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with steamed rice or noodles.
